Minehead Butlins

2010 - The Crazy Horse Saloon Original Sign

Even after ten years of closing as an official club of Butlins Minehead to its guest, this area would be used on and off for private hire and other events, such as prize bingo. The club was also used for creative arts, such as clay painting further along the years. Today, as of 21/12/2020, the club remains in place and is still has its doors closed. However, with plans to change the pavilion coming soon, its only a matter of time that Bourne Leisure will have another great idea of what they can use this excellent club for...lets keep our eyes focused on 2021 for what might be planned. If you look at this photo, you can see the original logo faded into the wood.

2010 - The Crazy changes to cash bingo

The entrance to the former club in 2010 had seen very little changes. The surrounding areas had been given a fresh coat of pain and a new banner was added to show the cash bingo. The doors remain as they were 1999 as the club awaits to entertain its guest.

2010 - Seeing that sign only knew one thing

As you walked into this wonderful club, you would see the high level of detail that Rank had done for this club. When it changed from Sundance into the Crazy Horse Saloon, it would show you many areas of the Western times. This was the main entrance to the club as you would feel the magic of this excellent and greatly missed club.

2010 - Getting Ready for Bingo

I remember taking this photo and thinking about the history of this wonderful club. As it awaits its new journey to entertain its guest in a new format, we take notice of the original lighting still in place and the shop at the rear, which was called the "Trading Post", the second shop to host the name. The other was located at the front, where the Diner is today. The club had a sad feeling on this day as I the feeling it was screaming out to entertain its guest...but then again, I was having so many memories come back to me about this wonderful place.

2010 - The seating in this area is awaiting its guest

This photo has a bonus on it as you see my mother (Annette Banks) featured. This is the view of the seating area of the rear of the club which looked like a staging area. Also note the doors, which will better when I show you the photos of when the lights are turned on. There is a lot of memories that this club is screaming to tell us all. Today, this area is sealed off in a design of an office for the use of private hire, personally....not the same feeling as I remember.

2010 -Awaiting to seat the guest to view the many shows

It's a shame that I did not look at the photo on the wall, here you see a close up of that seating area. Thank note of the carpet, which remain in place for over ten years of closure. Also them lights...there was something about them that I loved a great deal. Of course, Butlin's history has shown these in the past, showing the detail Rank went into when designing this excellent club.

2010 - The Crazy Horse Saloon Small shop

When I was at this club in 2019, this small shop remained in place, unused but there awaiting for new customers. I might be wrong but I think it was called "young dudes" or something similar and offered many items no grocery related, such as lighting items for children.

2010 - Stage area

Still waiting for the stage to be used to show the guest the excellent Crazy Horse Saloon.

2010 - Squaws  - also known as the Ladies toilets

To go with the themes of the Crazy Horse Saloon, they renamed the toilets to match. This was the ladies toilet, which use to be full length to include a link to the outside swimming pool. When the pool was removed, they shorten the toilets to half the size where they remained only used as when needed.  These toilets was also used for the Jazz club.

2010 - Braves - also known as male toilets

The male toilets in the Crazy Horse Saloon were known as "Braves". The toilets originally were full length with two entrances/exits. There was one on the club side that linked to the Wessex Room/Sundance and then the Crazy Horse Saloon. It also served the Jazz club (I think it was Dixie at some stage). The other side was linked to the outdoor swimming pool, where you could change or for its use. They were halved in size when the developments came into action and have been like this since this date. Only be used as and when required, they hold two stories, one of the clubs and the other for the pool, silly how such an unusual area can have a history as I used these to get changed for the outdoor pool.

2010 - The Crazy Horse Saloon main bar

The bars of the Crazy Horse Saloon in Minehead. I remember this on the bar, which is no longer at the resort in today's Butlins. At one stage there was a children's part at the end where you could get your drinks for kiddies but I remember the staff was no keen on this as they had a lot on with the customers. At the end was also a pool table, two or three if memories serve me, and a cool seating area where we (our gang) sat.

2010 - Lights turned on in the Crazy Horse Saloon

With the lights turned on, we get a better view of the amazing Crazy Horse Saloon. Ten years after closure, we see very little change in the club at this stage.

2010 - General View of the club

Showing you the great club and what it use to look like before the modern changes. The stage here has seen many bands and entertainers as it remains unused. The shop doors remain shut and the club is not in full use.
