Butlin's Sunsplash Swimming Pool

The Sunsplash swimming pool was the fun pool in the Wessex Building, which was formerly known as the Regency Building. The original indoor heated pool was converted into Sunsplash.

The Regency Building

The building had first started as the Regency building and was an amazing location for some fun at Butlins Minehead. Downstairs you would have the Old Time Ballroom, Regency Coffee Bar, Regency Bar and the Neptune Bar. Upstairs was the Heated indoor pool, Bingo Lounge and Coffee Bar.

The indoor heated swimming pool is open daily from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. It would then reopen from 2:30 p.m. until 6:15 p.m. It would then reopen again from 8 p.m. until 9 p.m (from the 1967 Guide in my collection)

The indoor swimming pool was located at the rear of the Regency building at a height. You would need to go up the stairs to the changing rooms and work your way down to the pool. The pool was quite long and offered views of the front lake and the sea with North Hill showing off its beauty. In the Regency, the lounge would have windows that would show you the swimming pool and those swimming inside it.

Sunsplash Swimming Pool

The heated indoor swimming pool had a major change as it was converted into the fun pool, now called the Sunsplash swimming pool. The pool would have rapids installed with three flumes, which were the yellow (for those who wish a simple slide down), blue (with an immediate dip) and the black hole (which was red on the outside) that had two dips on the way down. The swimming pool remained open until 1998 when it was closed down for the new era of Butlins called "Butlins Family Entertainment Resorts".  The Oasis swimming pool was converted into the pool you see on the resort today as a replacement.

It was in 2023 that a decision was made to change the Wessex building to benefit the customer by making use of it once again. The old Crazy Horse Saloon, with a rich history, was demolished within the Green Baize and Sunsplash swimming pool. It's planned to reopen the building to offer the chance for customers to have fun with the Playxperience. To get an idea of what that is, click on the logo shown and you will see what is happening at Bognor Regis. A rich history as a building of wonder and to think that Sunsplash had been closed for 23 years with the Crazy Horse Saloon being as and when. It's great to see that they are going to use it once again and allow it to entertain us all. Please continue below to see my collection of photos and videos that might be of interest to you.
