Butlin's was not always regarded as the primary option for all campers, as some preferred a quieter location. Sir Billy Butlin was always forward-thinking and recognised that this area should be accessible to all his customers. To tackle this issue, Billy opened a simpler camp named Freshfields, where it would have the Butlins charm without the loud and active surroundings.
The idea of Freshfields was a simple one: to deliver what Sir Billy Butlin offered with a more relaxed and quieter feeling, without the need for a funfair or large swimming pool. This idea worked well as the customer who wanted this type of break would enjoy their time at Freshfields.
Situated in Cornwall on Porthpean Road, Duporth Freshfields originally began as an estate and manor owned by Charles Rashleigh (click to read more). In 1933, the manor and estate were acquired by a company named Seaside Holiday Camps Ltd. Their intention was to transform the site into a holiday camp, a goal they accomplished in 1934.
Similar to the Butlin's sites, Duporth was requisitioned for military purposes, serving as a base for both Indian and American forces. It played a role in training the soldiers until the conclusion of the war, after which it reverted to being a holiday camp. In 1972, Butlin's Ltd expressed interest in the site and acquired it to establish a Freshfields holiday camp.
The tale of Duporth did not end here; in 1985, the owners of Butlin's, Rank Organisation, aimed to convert some of the locations into their sister company, Haven. Duporth was one of the selected sites until major changes took place in the Rank Organisation holiday division in 1998. Like Butlin's, Duporth was sold in 1999, coming under new private ownership that continued to operate the site, which featured chalets and caravans for 1200 guests.
Sadly, the site would change ownership several times until 2006, when it closed down and was sold to developers. Today, this location has houses in the design of the Cornish cottage style.

Information regarding the Seaview Freshfield holiday camp is quite scarce, making it difficult to find relevant details. Based on my research, Butlins acquired the camp in 1973, but I have yet to uncover specifics about the camp's offerings and features. I am actively seeking more information as I am keen to learn about this significant site and its relevance in Butlin's historical timeline.
Under the photo are two links: one for Hoseseaons, which is thought to be the owner, and another for Park Holidays. Interestingly, both showcase chalets as accommodation, indicating a connection. Additionally, Park Holidays has the title "Polperro Holiday Park (formerly Seaview Village) - Chalet, Bungalow & Caravan Holidays," linking it to its previous name. I am uncertain about the specific location... do you happen to know? If so, please reach out. Currently, I do not possess any items in my collection related to this camp.
Currently, there is limited information regarding this location. It is said that it was owned by Butlins from 1971, although the exact end date is unknown. Presently, it is reported to be owned by Parkdean Resorts. Upon my visit to the website, I discovered that chalets are available as an option, but I lack further details. The image displayed is sourced from Google Maps, as of this time.

Similar to the previous sites, there is currently limited information regarding this significant location. Research indicates that Butlins acquired it in 1973, and it was referred to as a Freshfields site. However, it later transferred ownership to a company called Dolphin Holidays, and after that, the trail goes cold. I am continuing to investigate this location, and I will update you once I discover more. In the meantime, please click the button below to view what is thought to be the current site.

Information about this site reveals that Butlins purchased the campsite in 1974. The details surrounding the sale are unclear; however, my research indicates that it was acquired by Rojo Leisure Limited. As I delved deeper into the company, I found little until I discovered that Rojo Leisure Limited was dissolved on October 25, 2011.
After uncovering that the company was no longer in existence, I was able to locate an address that I believe is linked to a company currently operating the former site. This company is called Haulfryn Holidays. I could be mistaken, but that was the link I was directed to; feel free to check it out using the button below and see what you think. Their park map also features the Two Chimneys, which seems likely to me. The park looks fantastic and is very well cared for.
