Butlins Iconic Chalets

Butlins AYR Chalets

Constructed during World War II, Butlins AYR began its journey to aid the war effort. Following World War II, the camp was officially named Butlins for the first time, continuing its legacy until 1998. In 1999, it was handed over to its sister company, Haven, where it remains to this day (as of 2026). Sadly, Haven is no longer a part of the Butlins family and is now operated by a separate company. Only one generation of chalets remains in the former Butlins AYR and they are the Butlin's Holiday Worlds era design, under the ownership of the Rank Organisation. They can be booked for a break on the site as of 2026 and are renamed to apartments.

Butlin's Bognor Regis Chalets

One of the last three remaining resorts that still displays the Butlins logo, the Bognor resort offers two types of chalets. As of 2026, Butlins Bognor Regis is the only resort with hotels, boasting three in total, and it is the smallest of the three that are still operational. The chalets on this site are from the first generation and reflect the design from the Butlins Holiday Worlds era, positioned closest to the seaside. It has the fewest original chalets from the time of Billy Butlin's ownership and has undergone the most modifications compared to the other two resorts still in operation today.

Butlins Clacton's Chalets

The second eldest camp in the Butlins timeline and one that proven to be a bit harder to get permission for. The Clacton site has an interest dates as it open in 1938 and closed in 1983, swapping over the last two digits. The last owner of this former Butlins was the Rank orgnisation and it was not apart of the Butlins Holiday Worlds era. As like Filey, AYR, Pwllheli and Skegness, the Clacton camp would be used in support of World War Two. It was reopened shortly after under the name of Atlas Park but only lasted for one year when it was closed and sold off to a developer. Nothing remains of the former Butlins.

Butlins Filey Chalets

Butlins Filey was the third oldest in the timeline and was not finished when World War II started. The ministry would provide funding for the camp's completion as it was used to support the war effort. The camp would carry the Butlins name until it was closed by the Rank organization in 1983. It reopened briefly as Amtree Park, but would close once more. Between 1988 and 2003 the former Butlins site would be completely demolished.

Butlins Minehead Chalets

One of the last remaining resorts that still features the Butlins logo and is closely aligned with the original design that Billy Butlin would have overseen during its construction. Butlins Minehead has four generations of chalets. The first generation includes the original design, available in both single and double-decker styles. The second generation reflects the design from the former Butlins Holiday Worlds era, while the third and fourth generations are based on the previous Bourne Leisure Limited design. While the exteriors may look the same, the interiors are significantly different from how they were when the resort first opened. The closest to the original design is found at a location known as Surfer Point, which is classified as standard rooms with baths. These rooms still feature the boiler rooms at the ends of the lines in alternate blocks and are extremely small inside.

The double decker's remain unchanged in appearance from the side, but internally, they have undergone significant modifications. The self-catering side, the chalet design has been altered, with some chalets being combined to create larger spaces, while others have been reduced in size. The half-board section, known as Ocean Point, has experienced some internal modifications, featuring rooms with living areas but lacking kitchens. The designs from the Butlins Holiday Worlds era, referred to as Oyster Bay and Plantation Quay, have also seen considerable internal changes. Plantation Quay has been updated with new main entrances at the front, yet the structure still reflects the original Rank organisation design. Oyster Bay retains its original design from the Butlins Holiday Worlds era, now enhanced with upgrades like double glazing. The other design from the Butlins Holiday Worlds is also the deluxe chalet design, which has seen a small amount of changes made.

The third and fourth generation comes from Bourne Leisure Limited, where we observe that Holicote Village (one half) has been modified to now include a patio, while the other half retains the original design. The building's exterior remains unchanged, although numerous internal modifications have been made. Lastly, there is West Lake Village, a completely new chalet design that I believe is the best option available at the resort, offering stunning views. They have replaced some of the previous single-decker units. Most of the staff accommodation has been demolished with the flatlets ones remaining at the rear of the resort, used by staff.

Butlin's Monsey Chalets

One of two camps to be located outside the United Kingdom, and the only one situated in Ireland, was closed in 1982 as a Butlins. It reopened later that same year as the Mosney Holiday Centre, which operated until its closure in 2000. The legacy of Butlins Mosney persists under the name of the Mosney Accommodation Centre, which is still in operation today. Some of the original chalet designs are still present on the site.

Butlins Pwllheli Chalets

Constructed during World War II, Butlins Pwllheli began its journey to aid the war effort. Butlin's Skegness Chalets

One of the three sites where the Butlins logo continues to be displayed, this is also the primary location where the Redcoats originated. This camp features two generations of chalet designs: the first being the original, and the second representing the Butlins Holiday World era. The original design includes both single and double-decker chalets, some of which were used by staff, while the Butlins Holiday World era introduced the triple-decker design, and those found in Pwllheli, AYR, Minehead, and Bognor Regis (sorry, I do not know their official name).

Who and What is Butlin's Memorabilia Website
The Butlins Memorabilia website was originally established as a place on the internet where people could view Mark Banks' Butlins collections. As a passionate enthusiast of the brand, Mark took the initiative to explore the extensive history that led to the website's transformation. Now, the Butlins Memorabilia site has matured into a historical education platform, demonstrating to visitors the meaningful ways in which Butlins has fostered joy and created unforgettable memories.

Are you the official Butlins Archive?
There exists only ONE official website that represents Butlins and that is located at www.butlins.com. The Butlins Memorabilia website is NOT the official archive of Butlins, nor does it serve as the authentic historical record of this extraordinary company. Butlins and their respective parent company have no role in the development of this site and have not participated in its creation. The singular official source for all Butlins information is the one indicated above. This site is strictly a fan-created platform, and any material presented here should be viewed as unofficial. Butlins and their esteemed parent company have NOT reached out to me to create this site, nor have they requested me to promote them. I undertake this effort solely to demonstrate my appreciation for their remarkable name and brand.
