One of the last remaining resorts that still features the Butlins logo and is closely aligned with the original design that Billy Butlin would have overseen during its construction. Butlins Minehead has four generations of chalets. The first generation includes the original design, available in both single and double-decker styles. The second generation reflects the design from the former Butlins Holiday Worlds era, while the third and fourth generations are based on the previous Bourne Leisure Limited design. While the exteriors may look the same, the interiors are significantly different from how they were when the resort first opened. The closest to the original design is found at a location known as Surfer Point, which is classified as standard rooms with baths. These rooms still feature the boiler rooms at the ends of the lines in alternate blocks and are extremely small inside.
The double decker's remain unchanged in appearance from the side, but internally, they have undergone significant modifications. The self-catering side, the chalet design has been altered, with some chalets being combined to create larger spaces, while others have been reduced in size. The half-board section, known as Ocean Point, has experienced some internal modifications, featuring rooms with living areas but lacking kitchens. The designs from the Butlins Holiday Worlds era, referred to as Oyster Bay and Plantation Quay, have also seen considerable internal changes. Plantation Quay has been updated with new main entrances at the front, yet the structure still reflects the original Rank organisation design. Oyster Bay retains its original design from the Butlins Holiday Worlds era, now enhanced with upgrades like double glazing. The other design from the Butlins Holiday Worlds is also the deluxe chalet design, which has seen a small amount of changes made.
The third and fourth generation comes from Bourne Leisure Limited, where we observe that Holicote Village (one half) has been modified to now include a patio, while the other half retains the original design. The building's exterior remains unchanged, although numerous internal modifications have been made. Lastly, there is West Lake Village, a completely new chalet design that I believe is the best option available at the resort, offering stunning views. They have replaced some of the previous single-decker units. Most of the staff accommodation has been demolished with the flatlets ones remaining at the rear of the resort, used by staff.
