Butlins Skegness visit February 2020
In February 2020, my family and I traveled from London to Skegness for a holiday. While we were there, I felt a rush of excitement knowing I was at the original site where it all began, where Sir Billy Butlin had once visited and proclaimed, "this is where my legacy will begin....right here, now." Today, the Harris Family Trust does an incredible job managing the resort and continues to invest millions of pounds into the three locations. They strive to merge the classic Butlins with the modern version, adding extra value to the experience. My emotions during my visit to Butlins were difficult to explain, as I was overwhelmed with joy and happiness to be in the place where my hero had first walked.
Butlins, with Sir Billy Butlin as its leader and founder, is truly mind-blowing to contemplate.
In honour of Sir Billy Butlin and all those who worked at Butlins
There is an information board located just outside this gem showing us all the importance of this location and its strong meaning it has to the Butlins name and historic timeline, certainly proud to see this in front of the chalet.
Breathing-taking moment
Captured in February 2020, I gaze at this remarkable gem and reflect on its importance within the Butlins Timeline. This design, which I call the Gem, continues to tell the tale of its link to the inception of Butlins. An extraordinary structure that showcases its pure beauty to everyone at Butlins.
What an amazing photo to be able to not only visit in person but to be available for everyone to see. You can feel the importance of this gem as it would have witnessed so many changes in Butlins Skegness over the many years.
This gem is registered as a grade 2 listed building and is registered as the "Gardeners Office by Addlethrorpe Avenue" (source)
General view of the Butlins chalet.
From this angle, we can appreciate the finer details of the chalet and how it was crafted to suit the needs of the era. In the early years of Butlins, we would anticipate features like double glazing and larger rooms equipped with toilets, which were not part of this original design.
Another captivating view showcasing the door design, which has transformed remarkably over the years at Butlins, while the traditional design continues to exist at Butlins Minehead. Looking back to the time it was key-locked, this gem reveals how much detail has changed over the many years of Butlins.
It is an extremely beautiful chalet to look at and visit
Butlins Skegness and Bourne Leisure (the owners at the time) have done a wonderful job of looking after this very special chalet. When you visit Butlins in Skegness, be sure to add this to your checklist, as it's a must-see. I just love looking at it and seeing what it tells me about a time that is no more in Butlins, stunning.
So very proud....
